In 2025, we will be working on Bouwurk on the Oldehoofsterkerkhof in Leeuwarden: an innovative building made of sustainable materials and creative building blocks. Everyone can help build and contribute to the project. Once built, it will be used as a creative centre for people looking for a place to make, invent and experiment.
With Bouwurk, we want to prove in 2025 that a building can be much more than four walls with a roof. On the Oldehoofsterkerkhof, we will create an impressive building that defies all the rules. Built with joy as the corner stone, like when we were children, full of curiosity and fun, when we could build towers from anything we came across.
It will be a building full of new ideas and firsts. With walls made from Frisian soil, sustainable crops and creative building blocks from all over the province. Everyone can contribute and we see every challenge we come across as an opportunity to try something new. With Bouwurk, we want to show that we Frisians can create something undreamed-of. That as humans we are capable of amazing things, as long as we are prepared to commit ourselves to them together. Even when things are uncertain and messy in our society.
We will be working on collaborations and ideas for one thousand days, before starting the build in May 2025. Once built, it will be used as a creative centre for people looking for a place to make, invent and experiment. Would you like to create a performance with your village? Use Bouwurk as your podium. Are you looking for fresh ideas or inspiration? Get to work in the makers’ space. Are you an artist? Come to an exhibition and then get to work together.
You are an artist or creative who likes to make new things. You like to think differently and shine a new light on problems and events and want to participate in Arcadia.
You enjoy rolling up your sleeves and doing something. You like to make connections with other people and work on projects together.
You are a Handy Henry and are great with your hands. You have an amazing skill or hobby, and you love sharing your knowledge with others. Maybe you’re a star knitter or prima ballerina. Join Arcadia!
You are on the board of a (village) association and would like to do something with your members. Maybe you want to share your activity on a stage, want to organise an event in your local area, or want to support a cause that is really important to your members?
