Arcadia was a 100-day cultural program that took place in the province of Fryslân from May 6th to August 14th, 2022. The event, created by Dutch and international artists, stimulated the senses with theater, dance, singing, photography, lectures, discussions, walks, visual arts, literature, and poetry. We are now actively working on creating a new 100-day program for 2025!
WHY?
Fryslân’s regional anthem describes it as it bêste lân fan d’ierde, the best land on Earth, and this was the inspiration for Arcadia. We have the courage to add an exclamation mark and a question mark to this sentence.
The world has changed, and so have the climate and the ways in which people interact with one another. Here in our beautiful province, we use art and culture to ask questions about ancestry, what kind of world we want to live in, and what we want to leave our children and grandchildren. We believe that together we can create a more beautiful world. Art can help us to do this by encouraging us to talk to and learn from one another, and to put our shoulders to the wheel.
HOW?
In the summer of 2022, we’ve offered a 100-day podium for makers and doers who want to change the world. This included a forest wandering through the streets, dramas on the cliffs of Fryslân, artworks in the park, dancers in abandoned hangars, and music on the mudflats. Sometimes grand and thrilling, sometimes small and intimate. Many of the events were free. Make sure to follow Arcadia so you can experience our future events!
