Tjibbe Hooghiemstra en Nyk de Vries: Myn fest is dyn fest (2025)

What if it’s me?

Myn fest is dyn fest is an installation by visual artist Tjibbe Hooghiemstra and writer/poet Nyk de Vries. Set within the white, sacred space of the Pier Pander Museum in Leeuwarden, the work captures a quiet moment in the future—one in which visitors are confronted with a powerful question: What happens when the roles are reversed, when it’s no longer clear who is the saviour and who needs saving?

Myn fest is dyn fest functions as a mirror: Who am I? Who is the Frisian, and who the migrant? Who is the guest, and who is the host? Who belongs to me? Who doesn’t? And what if the one who doesn’t belong… is me?

Hooghiemstra and De Vries don’t shy away from their own Frisian background. Both grew up with the ideal of mienskip—a cherished idea of mutual connection and belonging. But both also know that a community can turn on you. That solidarity can exclude those who fall outside the lines. This theme has shaped their work for many years. In that sense, Myn fest is dyn fest is also a continuation of their 2018 installation Wâldman, which sparked strong debate throughout Fryslân.
