paradys 2025: an artistic journey through leeuwarden

In the summer of 2025, the Paradys art trail will transform Leeuwarden into one big open-air museum. Discover brand-new works by local and international artists, all inspired by the theme of ‘grûn’. From Fryslân to China and from Limburg to Lebanon, artists will flock to the Frisian capital from all over the world, bringing their own stories, culture and background and inviting you to look at your surroundings with a fresh set of eyes. Where are you now and how did the grûn beneath your feet shape you?

Soil – What happens beneath our feet? How did the soil come to be and how do natural and human processes affect the world below us? By giving substance to the invisible, artists encourage visitors to ponder what happens beneath their feet.
Feeding ground – Grûn as a source of growth and development. While we all know that plants need soil to grow, ideas, traditions and communities also need it to flourish. What do we need to thrive? And how do our choices affect the world around us?
Home – What is a home? How does where you live shape your identity? In an ever-changing world, artists explore how landscapes affect us and instil a sense of belonging.

The Paradys art trail runs right through Leeuwarden city centre, connecting remarkable locations with impressive works of art. Explore the trail and be surprised by beautiful sculptures, media installations and gardens that encourage you to look at the world around you from a different angle.

bouwurk: where everything comes full circle

Bouwurk, the temporary mienskiphûs (community centre) on Oldehoofsterkerkhof, is the beating heart of Paradys. This is where the trail starts and ends, where you can find more information about the artworks and take part in countless workshops, talks and encounters with artists.
