grûntoanen (Ground-notes)
Visit the Grûntoanen (Ground-notes) exhibition at Museum Martena, where six artists from the Frisian Academy of Art pay tribute to the grûn as a source of life, identity and connection. This exhibition forms the starting point of Myn Grûn and takes visitors into the world of clay, texture and soil life.
Admire Joke Lunsing’s monumental sculptures, experience varved clay in Foppe Boersma‘s Bodemvondsten (Soil finds), and be transported by the layered textures in Betty van der Kamp’s work. Discover microscopic soil life in Eveline van der Pas‘ drawings and sound installations, see the dynamics of clay reflected in Liesbeth Daale‘s powerful forms, and experience the cycle of life and earth with Doet Boersma’s installation Grondecho (Ground echo).
Art from the grûn of Waadhoeke
In collaboration with professional artists from Friesland Academy of Art, we work with locals to create artworks that are deeply rooted in their own environment. During workshops, meetings and village activities, unique works are created under the guidance of the artists. During Arcadia 2025, these works will be exhibited in special locations in Waadhoeke, such as churches and village halls. Myn Grûn is an invitation to participate. Discover how your stories and experiences are woven into paintings, ceramics, textiles and installations that convey Waadhoeke’s identity.
art in the villages
With Myn Grûn, we work with the artists of Grûntoanen to bring stories to life. By engaging with locals during a series of workshops and exhibitions, the artists create diverse artworks that reflect the stories of the mienskip.
Each of the 12 villages will host a unique art activity. Feel the layers of the grûn with your very hands, sink them into the clay and create your own ceramics, or get inspired by regional plants and translate their shapes and colours into art. On foraging walks, you’ll discover the interface of nature and art as you give a new life to local, natural materials. As no two villages are the same, no two artworks are either. But there is one common denominator: they all meld grûn, mienskip and creativity.
discover, join in and marvel!
Myn Grûn is an invitation to discover the art and artist within and work on a project rooted in the mienskip. Whether you’re an experienced artist or working with klaai (clay) or ferve (paint) for the first time, there’s a place for everyone.
Want your village to join this project? Keep an eye on this page for updates on workshops, exhibitions and meetings. Come along, get inspired and experience how art and mienskip come together in the grûn of Waadhoeke.
