Dive into the fragments of the film installation

On Friday, August 15 and Saturday, August 16, Paradys is organizing two Cine Club sessions together with the artists of Werker Collective, centered around the installation A Moving History of the Young Worker at the Blokhuispoort.

Werker Collective started their research for A Moving History of the Young Worker in 2018 by organizing a queer Cine Club at U-Jazdowski CCA in Warsaw. Werker was inspired by the worker cine-club culture that emerged in Poland during the Soviet era, when workers produced their own amateur films with film equipment that was made accessible to them at the factories. Polish worker cine-clubs managed to circumvent the official narratives that were prevalent in the mainstream media at the time, addressing questions around gender, desire, consumerism, mass media, sexuality, work, family, housing, leisure, etc.

On the occasion of the film installation A Moving History of the Young Worker in Leeuwarden, two Cine Club sessions are organized. We will delve into fragments from the installation, structured around the well-known “five K’s” – Church, Crown, Capital, Army, and Alcohol – which, according to socialist and anarchist Ferdinand Domela Nieuwenhuis, served to oppress the worker. The Cine Club is a space for exchange, reflection, and conversation, and the sessions include a screening followed by a discussion with Werker Collective and a special guest. Everyone is welcome.
