Seven creative sessions: rope twisting and weaving
Sometimes it feels as though we can only thrive at the expense of nature — as if our only role is that of a parasite. But what if there’s another way? What if what’s good for us could also be good for our surroundings?
With Wolwêzen, we explore exactly that question. Not independence, but interdependence — mutual reliance. How is it possible to be connected to something that is also connected to you?
During these creative sessions, we will collaboratively weave a sculptural network from locally spun sheep’s wool. You’ll twist rope, weave structures, do exercises, and quite literally become connected to others. The result will be a visible safety net: an artwork that stands for care, trust, and shared responsibility.
The finished work will be on display in Bouwurk, as both sculpture and symbol. Not something to hang in, but something to reflect on. Wolwêzen is a multi-year project by artists Geartsje van der Zee and Rachel Schuit, with dramaturgy by Thomas Lamers. Last year, they worked with young people on a skûlplak (shelter) in Jorwert — this year, we continue building.
