De Oergong is a midsummer concert by De Bazuin brass band on the Wadden Sea. The ensemble has commissioned music artist Sytze Pruiksma to compose a piece which they will perform together with trumpetist Eric Vloeimans in the middle of the Wadden Sea. The birds, the waves, the fragrances, the wind and also the silence will all become one with the music.
This is an important location for the members of the brass band. It’s a place to come and unwind, to reflect, or to process grief, but more than anything else to savour the infinite beauty of the Wadden Sea. Sytze Pruiksma composed Images of a Sea especially for this place, which is listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage. The piece will be performed during De Oergong, showcasing a different kind of brass band concert.
The concert plays with the rhythm of time, in time signatures and timbres. While in the background, the interplay of the sun and the moon influences the Wadden Sea. You sense the changing of the seasons, the eb and flow of the tides. The transition from brine to fresh water, from heat to cold, fromt death to new life. Engaging, connecting, letting go.
