One of the remarkable sculptures by internationally acclaimed Argentinian artist Gabriel Chaile is on display at Bouwurk \u2013 a work that also functions as an oven. Chaile, who gained widespread recognition at the 2022 Venice Biennale, creates monumental figures built from brick and red clay. These towering \u201cbeings\u201d evoke both pre-Columbian pottery and stylized characters from folklore.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Each sculpture carries a personal connection. The figure at Bouwurk is named Brenda \u2013 after Chaile\u2019s sister. Sometimes these impressive forms act as silent guardians of cooking rituals, with large pots simmering nearby. At other times, they serve as fully functioning ovens, inviting people to gather, bake bread, and share culinary traditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
