Do you always start your day with a good podcast? Then you can add a three-part series to it from now on! Arriva made three podcasts with Arcadia about our 100-day manifestation. An interesting behind-the-scenes look, with the people behind Arcadia. The first episode is online NOW, and features none other than the man behind Bosk: Bruno Doedens! Because how do you even come up with the idea of a walking forest, and just as interesting: how much do those trees actually weigh?
Say you’re on the train. And instead of doing a bit of work, listening to a podcast, or scrolling through yet another TikTok video on your phone, look out the window for a moment. What do you see? Meadows? A city racing past, or that picturesque village? Or maybe none of that, and you’re speeding straight through a big grey industrial estate. What would this place look like in ten years? More new housing, less meadow, or more factories? And in fifteen years?
Right, now you have that picture in your mind. You’ve added more houses, or maybe more greenery, in your own vision. Either way: what’s your role in this landscape? What do you do today that affects this landscape tomorrow? Maybe consciously, and maybe unconsciously too?
Well, those questions are the introduction to this brand-new podcast from Arriva and Arcadia, featuring Bruno Doedens of Bosk in the first episode!
It’s quite something: moving 1,200 trees through the city for 100 days straight. In this podcast, Bruno Doedens talks about how the idea of walking trees through the busy city came about. Among other things, he explains just how heavy those trees are, and what a challenge it is to keep moving them with a team of five.
But he also talks about doing something different. Something that’s alienating and that always sparks reactions. That’s not always positive, it can also create resistance. “Resistance is good, it creates a bit of a shift in perspective. If something gets accepted straight away, it’s already mainstream, and that’s not what you want to achieve with art,” Bruno says. That shift in perspective can start with something as small as the irritation of having to cycle around it, or not being able to pass by for a moment. You start looking differently at a spot you probably cycle past every day, and only then notice that there actually aren’t any trees on that street either. “And then suddenly you find yourself thinking about it anyway,” Bruno explains.
“A forest is moving through the city: a beautiful title for a fairy tale. I’m curious who’ll write the first book about it.”
